The
board approves a magnet school expansion that would double
enrollment.
Contracts are not renewed for 46 central office staff and principals.
July
Facing
a $51 million deficit, the district makes an unprecedented
$18 million budget reduction, cutting 150 teachers, 23 assistant
principals and 120 other employees. Also, school supplies,
library book purchases and field trips are curtailed. Middle
College, an alternative program for "at-risk"
students, is closed.
October
The
CTU approves a three-year contract, averting a strike. Teachers
agree to a wage freeze for the current year, a 2% raise
next year, a 6% raise the following year and another 2%
raise if the district passes a levy.
